Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steaks:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Steaks:
- Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
- Mix well and form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.
- Cook the Patties:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side until browned (they don’t need to be fully cooked through). Remove and set aside.
- Make the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and mushrooms (if using) and sauté until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
- Combine and Simmer:
- Return the seared patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes until the steaks are cooked through and tender.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
