Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 ml) whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- Β½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp butter (for greasing the dish)
- ΒΌ tsp salt
- Ground cinnamon or nutmeg (for topping)
Instructions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat oven to 170Β°C (340Β°F). Grease a baking dish lightly with butter.
Heat the Milk
Warm the milk in a saucepan over low heat until just hot (do not boil). Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Make the Custard
In a bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until smooth (do not overbeat).
Slowly pour warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking gently.
Bake
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg on top.
Place the dish in a larger baking tray filled halfway with hot water (water bath).
Bake for 40β45 minutes, or until the center is just set.
Cool & Serve
Remove from oven and let cool for 30 minutes. Chill for at least 1 hour for the best texture.
Serve cold or slightly warm.
