Description: These Cheesy Sloppy Joe Bread Boats are the ultimate comfort food. Made with soft bread rolls stuffed with a savory and tangy sloppy joe mixture, topped with melted cheese, and garnished with fresh parsley, they are perfect for a family meal or game-day snack. Simple, hearty, and oh-so-delicious!
Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a cheese blend)
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
- Aluminum foil
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut a V-shaped wedge out of the top of each hoagie roll and hollow out some of the bread inside, creating a “boat” shape. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
- Cook the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add onions (and bell peppers, if using) to the skillet and sauté until softened.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Assemble the Bread Boats:
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture into the hollowed-out bread boats, packing it down slightly.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the top of each bread boat.
- Bake:
- Wrap the edges of the bread boats with aluminum foil to prevent burning. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm and enjoy!
These bread boats pair wonderfully with a side of coleslaw, fries, or a simple green salad.
