Ingredients

  • 4–6 slices thick-cut bologna
  • 1–2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 sandwich bun or thick bread slices
  • 1 slice cheese (American, cheddar, provolone — optional)
  • 1–2 tbsp mustard or mayo
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Ketchup or hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the bologna

  • Use thick slices if possible.
  • Cut a small “X” or slit on one side of each slice
    This prevents curling while frying.

2. Fry the bologna

  • Heat butter/oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the bologna slices in a single layer.
  • Fry 2–3 minutes per side until:
    ✔ Edges are crispy
    ✔ Center is browned
    ✔ Slight bubbling on the surface

3. Toast the bun

  • Spread a little butter on the bun/bread.
  • Toast in the same skillet until golden.

4. Build the sandwich

  • Spread mustard or mayo on the bun.
  • Layer the fried bologna slices.
  • Add cheese (optional). It will melt from the heat of the meat.
  • Add pickles, ketchup, or hot sauce if desired.

5. Serve

  • Press lightly and serve warm.
  • Perfect with chips, fries, or a cold drink.

  • Add a fried egg and American cheese.

  • Add grilled onions + cheese + spicy mustard.
