Ingredients:
- Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk (not hot)
- ¼ cup butter (softened)
- 1 large egg
- Filling
- 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (or ground beef/chicken/turkey)
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella (or cheddar)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
- For Brushing
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add in butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour and knead until you get a smooth, soft dough (about 8–10 minutes).
- Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling
- In a skillet, cook the sausage (or meat) until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Let cool slightly, then mix with cream cheese, shredded cheese, garlic powder, pepper, paprika, and parsley.
3. Assemble the Rolls
- Punch down the dough and divide into small equal pieces (about 20–24).
- Roll each piece into a small rectangle.
- Place 1 tablespoon of filling in the center, then roll up tightly like in the picture.
- Place seam-side down on a greased baking tray or muffin pan.
4. Bake
- Brush tops with egg wash.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
