Ingredients:

  • Dough
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 cup warm milk (not hot)
    • ¼ cup butter (softened)
    • 1 large egg

    • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (or ground beef/chicken/turkey)
    • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella (or cheddar)
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • ½ tsp black pepper
    • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
    • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
  • For Brushing
    • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add in butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead until you get a smooth, soft dough (about 8–10 minutes).
  4. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Filling

  1. In a skillet, cook the sausage (or meat) until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Let cool slightly, then mix with cream cheese, shredded cheese, garlic powder, pepper, paprika, and parsley.

3. Assemble the Rolls

  1. Punch down the dough and divide into small equal pieces (about 20–24).
  2. Roll each piece into a small rectangle.
  3. Place 1 tablespoon of filling in the center, then roll up tightly like in the picture.
  4. Place seam-side down on a greased baking tray or muffin pan.

4. Bake

  1. Brush tops with egg wash.
  2. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving.
