This quick and easy ground beef and cabbage stir-fry is a satisfying and nutritious meal perfect for any day of the week. The dish combines tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, and aromatic spices to create a hearty and comforting meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- ½ head of cabbage, roughly chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
Instructions:
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat and set the beef aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Sauté the chopped onions until they are translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring it in with the onions and garlic. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the cabbage starts to soften.
- Season: Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, soy sauce, paprika, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt to taste. Stir everything together, then lower the heat to medium-low.
- Simmer: Add the browned ground beef back into the skillet and mix it with the cabbage. Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and all the flavors meld together.
- Serve: Once cooked, taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, either on its own or over rice for a more filling meal.
