  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steaks:
    • Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
    • Mix well and form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Cook the Patties:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side until browned (they don’t need to be fully cooked through). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and mushrooms (if using) and sauté until softened.
    • Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
    • Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
  4. Combine and Simmer:
    • Return the seared patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them.
    • Cover and simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes until the steaks are cooked through and tender.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.
    • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
